Christopher Fry – Charlotte Based Yoga Instructor
I first started my yoga journey just before I moved to Charlotte in 2014; at the time I was looking for an enjoyable activity that didn’t involve drugs or alcohol. I was in probably the worst shape of my life and realized I need to do a complete 180-degree turnaround, so I started to practice yoga on CD instructional tapes that I’d received as a gift. I started doing yoga training right in my living room.
When I moved to Charlotte, North Carolina I joined the Dowd YMCA and started taking group classes. My first class was a Hot Vinyasa Flow Yoga. I got 15 minutes into the class and felt overheated, exhausted, weak, and embarrassed. I swore I’d never go back…but I didn’t leave the class. I resigned myself to a sweaty death in the back corner. The class ended and soon after I realized that not only had I not died, but I felt AMAZING. I was hooked.
Two years later I recognized a need to deepen and expand my practice so I signed up for Ken Heptig’s yearly GoalYoga RYT-200 program. I graduated that year and continued my education to become an RYT-200 YACEP. During this time my dad was diagnosed with lung cancer and I quit my job in project management to spend more time with him. I pivoted to teaching a couple classes a week, and after he passed I realized I enjoyed teaching yoga so much, I decided to teach full time. I began teaching various styles and formats all throughout Charlotte.
In late 2019 I signed up for my first 500 RYT modules through the Asheville Yoga Center, one of the best programs in the South East. I completed my training November 2020.
Covid-19 shut down all of the gyms and like many instructors, I was out of work so I pivoted back into a marketing field management position.
Currently, I teach yoga in private classes, workshops, events, and continuing education classes.
